SPRAY TANS DON’T BEGIN & END
AT OUR DOORS
The end spray tan result is based on 50% of the artist's work and 50% on the client's preparation and aftercare of the tan. We can give you the best spray tan using the best products and technique, but without the right prep/aftercare it won't turn out as flawless as we want it to!
The Prep
Everything you need to do and know before your appointment. Creating a smooth, even, and pH balanced canvas is an extremely important part of the spray tan process.
FOLLOW THESE PREP STEPS FOR A FLAWLESS TAN!
• Exfoliate your skin & shower the NIGHT BEFORE the tan with an exfoliating mitt. NOT the day of the tan.
• If possible, exfoliate 2-3 times leading up to the day of the appointment with the last time being the night before.
• Avoid scrubs with OILS as they may leave an oil residue preventing the spray tan solution from soaking into your skin properly. Try to avoids any sugar scrubs.
• On the days leading up to the tan, MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN OFTEN! The more your skin is moisturized, the better. But DON’T use lotion ON the day of the appointment.
• Drink lots of water so your skin is also hydrated from the inside out.
• On the day of the tan, do not shower! You should have already done this last night when exfoliating.
• Do not put any product on the skin. This includes lotion, oil, deodorant (especially AREOSOL DEODERANTS)
• Do not, repeat, DO NOT use dove soap or anything that contains ‘SLS’ (Sodium lauryl sulphate) can cause streaks + uneven tan.
• No makeup, perfume or serums.
• No jewellery (Piercing are ok!).
• Wear dark, loose clothing. No jeans, leggings, socks or bras can be worn right after the appointment (unless you’re wearing the bra during the tan).
• Wear what you will feel comfortable in to be spray tanned black thong, black underwear or bathing suit.
• Over the age of 18 years old can be nude, men have to wear underwear.
• If it looks like it may rain, have an umbrella and wear clothes that cover you up as you CANNOT get your skin wet after the spray tan until your first shower.
• Wear sandals if possible to avoid the tan from rubbing off your feet.
• Shave 24 HOURS before the tan, NOT the day of the tan!
• Waxing should be done at least 48 HOURS prior so that no residue is left on the skin.
• Manicures/pedicures should also be done 24-48 HOURS before the tan.
• If you must do nails afterwards, I recommend just a polish change as you want to avoid any soaking & scrubbing that occurs with a full mani/pedi.
• The active ingredient, DHA, is FDA-approved and only affects the outer layer of your skin, While there’s no evidence showing DHA is dangerous, it’s always a good idea to consult with your doctor before getting a spray tan during pregnancy to ensure it’s right for you.
• If you are breastfeeding I do provide nipple covers but we can choose to avoid that area entirely if you prefer.
• You can wear a tube top, bra or a bathing suit that offers more coverage. Additionally we can use a towel to cover you when needed.
• If you have any sunburns or recent sun/UV damage at all, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SPRAY YOU!
• This includes minor sunburns, even if there was no peeling or intense redness.
• PLEASE NOTE: It’s the client’s responsibility to prevent UV and sun damage prior to the appointment.
• Any appointments that we must turn away/cancel within 48 hours of the appointment time due to UV damage will be treated as a late cancellation and charged 100% of the service fee.
• For in Studio I kindly ask you NOT to bring any guests with you unless they are also booked for an appointment or are the parent/guardian for clients under 18 yrs old.
• For liability reasons, I will have to turn away anyone who arrives with a guest. This would be considered a late cancellation and the fee would apply.
• If you are a mother and need to bring your infant/baby (in car seat) or children that is fine (Must be over 4 yrs old). I have a designated play area just outside my studio for them to play while you get a spray tan. They must understand that they can not come into the studio as there’s equipment that can be hot, sharp, heavy, expensive to replace if broken, or potentially come into contact with chemicals.
• For mobile services I kindly ask that there are NO CHILDREN or PETS present during the appointment. Children playing or pets running around can accidentally knock over items which may lead to damage or potentially come into contact with chemicals. I want to ensure that everyone remains safe.
• PARKING– There is plenty of parking on the street outside my home studio. For mobile it is the responsibility of the client to ensure that any necessary parking fees are covered.
• LATE ARRIVALS – Please note that I do give a 10 MINUTE grace period. I often book back to back so please allow yourself ample time to arrive on time and take into consideration the possibility of traffic. For mobile services I drive from home to home for appointments and if client is late it affects specific times for travel. If client is longer than 10 mins late, appointment will be CANCELLED and charged the service fee.
If necessary, please cancel or reschedule your APPOINTMENT at least 48 HOURS prior to the appointment time. Any cancellations within the 48 hour period will be subject to a cancellation fee which is 100% of the service booked. If a client NO SHOWS or is more than 10 minutes late, 100% cancellation fee will apply.
The Aftercare
Everything you need to do and know AFTER your appointment. Caring for your tan after the appointment is going to play a role in how the final result turns out. Just like caring for your lashes, nails, or hair, your spray tan needs a little TLC too!
FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO HELP PROLONG AND ENSURE THE TAN FADES EVENLY
• Immediately after the spray tan, before the first shower, you CANNOT get wet or sweat AT ALL!
• This means NO WASHING DISHES, NO WORKING OUT DURING PROCESS TIME, NO CRYING, NO WALKING IN THE RAIN, ETC.
• Use this as an excuse to rest, relax, and just chill! You deserve it!
• DO NOT TOUCH YOUR SKIN UNTIL FIRST RINSE!
This means no skin to skin contact with yourself or anyone else until your first shower.
• Colour may smudge or transfer from one part of your body to another (most commonly seen is the palms of the hands when people itch their face or another part of the body).
• Wearing long sleeves/pants will help prevent this.
• If you are a breastfeeding mom, I recommend getting an old t-shirt/long sleeve and cutting out nipple holes so you are still able to feed your little one without the possibility of the bronzer transferring while developing.
• I will tell you how many hours to wait before your first shower. This first shower is ONLY A RINSE using ONLY WATER! Avoid hot water, you don’t have to freeze, lukewarm is fine! We just don’t want to dry out the skin with scorching hot water.
• DO NOT wait longer to rinse than what you were recommended or you run the risk of undesired results.
• DO NOT use any product at all when rinsing. This includes body wash, soap, scrubs, shampoo, conditioner, etc. WATER ONLY!
• DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT PEE IN THE SHOWER!! This might sound hilarious but this will cause streaking down the leg and will remove the tan
• Rub your body in circular motions like if you were putting lotion on your body. You’ll see the bronzer coming off your body which is exactly what we want; rinse every crevice of your body and when the water runs COMPLETELY CLEAR you can get out.
• If you noticed there are streaks, that’s most likely the cosmetic bronzer still left on your skin, hop back into the shower and buff that area with your hand.
• Always pat skin dry with the towel, NEVER rub your skin with the towel!
• Moisturize!
• Moisturize your skin every single day using tan friendly products (HEMPS Lotion) to prolong the tan and keep it looking smoother.
• Dry skin and spray tans do not mix well.
• Most drugstore lotions/body washes will have ingredients like ‘SLS’ (Sodium lauryl sulfate) which could strip the tan.
• If possible, moisturize 2X PER DAY.
• Avoid Dove products, soap bars, spray deodorant, aerosol sunscreen, and products with mineral oil.
• Spray tans DO NOT prevent you from the damage of UV RAYS, it is not a “Base Coat”.
• You still need to wear SPF! I recommend the SUN BUM BRAND (use the lotion sunscreen product, NOT the aerosol).
• LA ROCHE POSAY 50+ sunscreen is amazing for the face.
• Whether you normally burn in the sun or you normally tan in the sun, your skin will react the same way it usually does even with the spray tan.
• I recommend avoiding shaving with a spray tan but if you absolutely need to shave, use a brand new sharp razor rather than a dull razor that will scrape your skin.
• Shave with CONDITIONER or COCONUT OIL, not shave gel.
• NO WAXING and NO LASER while you have a spray tan.
• A CLEAR self-tanner touch up spray is great for refreshing the tan on areas that fade the quickest such as the face, hands, and feet. (DOLCE GLOW, NUDA DARK, COCO + EVE)
• A gradual tanning lotion is also great for revitalizing your tan when you get near the end of the tans life.
• Try to avoid perfume right on the skin.
• Try to avoid HOT SHOWERS, hot showers can make your tan fade quicker. Stick with luke warm water or colder while you have your tan.
• Try not to use an exfoliator (Loofa, Scrubs, Dry Brush) while you have your tan. Just use soap and your hands to wash your body.
• Spray tan friendly body washes that doesn’t dry out your skin (natural the better).
• Getting a good moisturizer like Hemps, will help prolong your tan.
• Just MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE!! At least 2 x a day!
